Bad credit credit cards are, quite simply, credit cards that are offered to consumers that have what they consider to be bad credit. There are two basic types of bad credit credit cards and both are considered as credit cards for no credit.
The first kind of bad credit credit card are what is known as secured credit cards. A secured credit card requires some kind of security deposit that is usually equal to the amount of credit that is extended to the borrower (you). However, keep in mind that the credit limit is subject to the terms of the issuer and may be as little as 50% of the total amount that has been deposited. This security deposit is typically held in a secure bank account that is managed by the bad credit credit card issuer. It is for this reason that they work much like that of a quick money loan.
The second kind of bad credit credit card are more typical of what is commonly referred to as a standard credit card but may have a few stipulations. One of these stipulations may be that you have to use the bad credit credit card as a means of debt consolidation, which may include other credit card balances that you carry. So while the overall terms of this kind of bad credit credit card is relatively the same as more typical credit cards, it is considered a “bad credit” card because of the inherent stipulations that the issuer requires. They also may carry a higher APR (annual percentage rate) than more typical credit cards as well, due to the higher amount of risk to the creditor.
Don’t let the term bad credit credit cards turn you off to their effectiveness at helping you restore your credit. Keep in mind that many Americans are suffering from less-than-perfect credit due to these troubled economic times and the unethical tactics of many companies and organizations in the credit industry. While it’s true that there is always the issue of personal responsibility at play, when the terms of credit cards are methodically crafted against the consumer, sometimes it’s quite difficult to keep a perfect credit score.
